June 15, 2019 – Chicago, IL, USA

Visiting Chicago with my parents during their trip to the USA was an adventure filled with unforgettable experiences. From exploring iconic landmarks to indulging in cultural delights, our time in the Windy City was truly remarkable. Armed with the Chicago Explorer Pass, we embarked on a journey through the city, making the most of our stay at the luxurious Sheraton Grand in Downtown Chicago.

Our accommodation at the Sheraton Grand, situated in the heart of Downtown Chicago, set the tone for a delightful experience. The smooth check-in process ensured that we settled in quickly, and we were rewarded with a room offering a picturesque view of the magnificent Chicago River. The luxury and comfort provided by the Sheraton Grand added an extra layer of joy to our trip.

One memorable morning, I woke up at 3 a.m. to catch the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan cricket match. We were delighted as Team India emerged victorious in a convincing manner. It was an exhilarating start to the day and set a positive tone for our exploration of the city.

Armed with the Chicago Explorer Pass, we were able to effortlessly navigate the city’s attractions. Our adventure began with a visit to the breathtaking Buckingham Fountain, which mesmerized us with its grandeur and intricate design. The architecture tour of Chicago showcased the city’s remarkable skyline and introduced us to its rich architectural heritage.

We couldn’t resist experiencing the thrill of the giant wheel, which treated us to breathtaking views of the city from a unique vantage point. The 94th floor of the Willis Tower offered a panoramic perspective of Chicago’s bustling streets and iconic landmarks. To add some excitement, my parents experienced “The Tilt,” a heart-pounding attraction that tilted them outward from the skyscraper’s edge. Chicago’s culinary scene captivated our taste buds, and we indulged in a memorable dining experience at the upscale fine dining restaurant, India House. The restaurant’s elegant ambiance and delectable Indian cuisine made it a perfect choice for a special evening with my parents. We savored every bite, appreciating the fusion of flavors that reminded us of home.

To conclude our trip, we couldn’t resist visiting Devon Avenue, fondly referred to as “Little India.” The vibrant cultural enclave offered a glimpse into the Indian diaspora and their rich traditions. We made a beeline for Ghareeb Nawaz, my personal favorite, where we relished their renowned biryanis. Packed with fragrant spices and authentic flavors, these biryanis were the perfect takeaway to share with our loved ones back home.

Our visit to Chicago with my parents was an experience filled with exploration, excitement, and the joy of shared moments. From the convenience of the Chicago Explorer Pass to the luxurious stay at Sheraton Grand, every aspect of our trip was carefully curated to create lasting memories. Immersed in the beauty of Chicago’s landmarks, we enjoyed thrilling experiences, delightful culinary adventures, and a taste of home on Devon Avenue. Chicago truly exceeded our expectations, leaving us with cherished memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.

Week 47 (November 13 – November 19) – MJ’s Running in 2022

Welcome to the forty seventh week of running for the year 2022.

Hey there, it’s time for my weekly running summary, but this week was quite different for me. I was in India, soaking up the beautiful culture and traditions, and most importantly, enjoying the pre-wedding preparations with my amazing fiancé.

While I didn’t lace up my running shoes during Week 47, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the excitement and joy of preparing for our wedding. The bustling streets, vibrant colors, and delicious cuisine of India created an atmosphere that was impossible to resist. It was a truly special time, and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.

During this week, my focus shifted from logging miles to creating memories with my partner. We spent quality time together, discussing wedding details, meeting with our families, and exploring the local customs and traditions. Every moment was filled with love, anticipation, and a sense of adventure.

Although running is an essential part of my routine, it’s equally important to prioritize the significant events in life. Our wedding is a milestone that symbolizes the beginning of a lifelong journey together. Taking a break from running allowed me to fully engage in the preparations, savoring each moment and strengthening the bond with my fiancé.

I understand that physical fitness is crucial, not just for my physical well-being, but also for my mental and emotional health. That’s why I’m confident that this break will ultimately rejuvenate my passion for running and bring a renewed energy when I return to the road.

In the end, it’s essential to remember that life is about balance. Sometimes, we need to step away from our usual routines and embrace the extraordinary moments that come our way. And so, as I look back on Week 47, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences and the love that surrounds me as I embark on this new chapter of my life.

See you next week!

Week 46 (November 06 – November 12) – MJ’s Running in 2022

Welcome to the forty sixth week of running for the year 2022.

Welcome back, running enthusiasts! This week, we’re taking a slight detour from our usual weekly running summaries. Life often presents us with extraordinary opportunities and events that take precedence over our regular routines. In my case, Week 46 was one such occasion as I traveled to India to celebrate my wedding. While I didn’t lace up my running shoes during this memorable week, I want to share the importance of embracing life’s milestones and the beauty of taking a break from our running routines.

As the week began, my focus shifted away from the miles I had grown accustomed to logging. Instead, I embarked on an incredible adventure filled with love, joy, and the celebration of a lifetime. Traveling to India for my wedding brought together family, friends, and cherished traditions that have been passed down through generations.

India, a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultures, offered me the opportunity to immerse myself in its rich heritage. From intricate henna designs adorning my hands to donning traditional attire, every moment was a vivid reminder of the significance of this occasion. With countless festivities, rituals, and ceremonies, the week was a whirlwind of happiness, laughter, and shared memories.

Although running plays a significant role in our lives, it is crucial to remember that our overall wellbeing extends beyond physical activity. Taking a break from running allowed me to focus on different aspects of my wellbeing. It allowed me to connect with loved ones, prioritize emotional and mental health, and fully embrace this momentous milestone in my life.

While I didn’t hit the pavement during Week 46, I found solace in moments of mindfulness and reflection. Engaging in yoga and meditation practices helped me center myself amidst the wedding preparations and festivities. These mindful practices reminded me of the importance of balance in life, encouraging me to appreciate the present and cultivate gratitude.

A break from our usual routines can also serve as an opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate. Running can be physically demanding, and taking time off allows our bodies to recover fully. This break can reignite our passion for running, offering a fresh perspective and renewed motivation when we return to our training.

While this week provided a hiatus from running, I’m excited to lace up my shoes once again and resume my training routine. It’s important to remember that life is a series of ebbs and flows, and it’s okay to step back from our regular activities to embrace the extraordinary moments that come our way. Running will always be there, waiting to welcome us back with open arms.

As we wrap up this unconventional weekly running summary for Week 46, I hope my experience of embracing life’s milestones resonates with you. Sometimes, we need to press pause on our routines to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable events that shape our lives. Remember to be kind to yourself, prioritize balance, and cherish the moments that make life extraordinary. Until next time, happy running, and may your journey be filled with both miles and milestones!

Week 45 (October 30 – November 05) – MJ’s Running in 2022

Welcome to the forty fifth week of running for the year 2022.

As dedicated runners, we often find ourselves caught up in the pursuit of consistent progress. We set goals, create training plans, and strive to improve our performance with each passing week. However, sometimes life throws unexpected challenges our way, forcing us to deviate from our well-laid plans. This blog post delves into my running journey during Week 45 (October 30 – November 05), a week in which I made a conscious decision to embrace rest and reflect on the importance of listening to our bodies.

Week 45 was meant to be another chapter in my running journey, with a meticulously planned training schedule awaiting me. However, life doesn’t always adhere to our plans, and unforeseen circumstances led me to a decision that was both difficult and necessary: I decided to take a break from running for the entire week.

Week 45 served as a much-needed reminder that running is not just about miles logged or personal records broken. It is a holistic journey that encompasses our physical, mental, and emotional health. As I resume my running routine, I plan to incorporate more flexibility, self-care, and active recovery periods into my training plan. This will help me maintain a healthy balance and avoid falling into the trap of overtraining.

See you next week!

Week 44 (October 23 – October 29) – MJ’s Running in 2022

Welcome to the forty fourth week of running for the year 2022.

In the realm of running, consistency is often touted as a key ingredient for success. However, every runner knows that life sometimes throws curveballs that disrupt even the most meticulously planned training schedules. Week 44 of 2022 was one such week for me, as unexpected circumstances led to a complete break from running, resulting in zero miles logged. Join me as I reflect on this week of rest and explore the lessons it taught me.

As runners, we are accustomed to pushing ourselves and striving for new milestones. However, it is equally crucial to listen to our bodies and recognize when rest is necessary. During Week 44, various commitments and responsibilities demanded my attention, leaving me with little time and energy for running. Rather than stubbornly persisting despite the circumstances, I made the conscious decision to prioritize rest and recovery.

For someone accustomed to following a structured training plan, the idea of an entire week without running can be disconcerting. However, life is full of unpredictable events, and sometimes our plans need to be adjusted. Embracing this reality with grace and adaptability is essential to maintaining a healthy mindset. By accepting the circumstances and allowing myself to adapt to the demands of the week, I was able to find peace in the temporary departure from my running routine.

Although I missed the physical exertion and endorphin rush that accompanies a run, I discovered that taking a break can be an opportunity for rejuvenation. The absence of running provided me with extra time to focus on other aspects of my life that had been neglected. I engaged in activities that brought me joy, spent quality time with loved ones, and prioritized self-care. This intentional break allowed me to recharge both mentally and physically, leaving me eager and motivated for future runs.

In the midst of a rest week, it’s easy to feel discouraged or guilty for not adhering to our running goals. However, it’s crucial to remind ourselves that running is a lifelong journey filled with peaks and valleys. The setbacks and breaks are an integral part of this process, teaching us valuable lessons along the way. Week 44 served as a reminder of the importance of balance, adaptability, and self-care in a runner’s life.

As Week 44 came to a close, I felt a renewed sense of excitement and motivation. The break from running had allowed me to reevaluate my goals, appreciate the importance of rest, and reassess my priorities. Armed with a newfound perspective, I eagerly looked forward to lacing up my running shoes and returning to the pavement in the upcoming week.

Week 44 of 2022 will forever be etched in my running journey as a week of rest. While it may not have been filled with miles logged and personal records shattered, it served as a valuable lesson in adaptability, self-care, and the importance of listening to my body. Running is not just about the miles covered; it encompasses the ups and downs, the setbacks, and the moments of triumph. As I embark on future weeks of training, I carry with me the wisdom gained during this week of rest, confident in my ability to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the runner’s life.

Visiting a new country is always an exciting experience, and when it comes to surprising our loved ones, the joy multiplies manifold. Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting my parents, affectionately known as Mummy and Pappa, during their visit to the United States. As part of their trip, we embarked on a delightful adventure to the Detroit Riverwalk in Michigan, where we discovered the charm of this scenic location and enjoyed some memorable moments together.

Living in India, where borders are often associated with conflict and restrictions, my parents were eager to witness how borders are perceived in different parts of the world. The Detroit Riverwalk provided them with a unique opportunity to observe the border between the United States and Canada, where these two countries coexist peacefully. It was a refreshing experience for them to witness the harmony and tranquility that exists between neighboring countries in the Western world.

The grandeur and history of GM fascinated my parents, who were eager to explore the automobile industry, a prominent feature of Detroit’s heritage.

The Detroit People Mover, resembling Mumbai’s Metro system, offered a relaxing and convenient way to traverse the city. The minimal crowds and spaciousness of the People Mover provided a stark contrast to the bustling crowds often experienced in Mumbai. We took this opportunity to enjoy the picturesque views along the riverfront while reminiscing about our memories of home.

One of the highlights of our visit was witnessing the joyful atmosphere at Detroit Riverwalk. We were captivated by the sight of families and friends relishing the artificial spring water and children playing gleefully in the park. It was heartwarming to see people of all ages enjoying themselves in such a peaceful setting. My parents were particularly delighted by the atmosphere, as it reminded them of the simple pleasures of life and the importance of cherishing such moments.

Our adventure continued as we explored the vibrant streets of Downtown Detroit. The city’s rich history and revitalized urban spaces impressed us all. From the stunning architecture to the vibrant cultural scene, Detroit showcased its unique charm at every turn. We indulged in some retail therapy, savored local cuisine, and absorbed the energy of the city’s dynamic environment.

To conclude our day, we headed to my workplace at Ford, where we were treated to live music and a showcase of magnificent automobiles. Mummy and Pappa were thrilled to pose alongside iconic vehicles like the Mustang and the mighty Raptor. The contagious enthusiasm of the staff, combined with the vibrant ambiance, made our visit truly unforgettable.

Our surprise visit to the Detroit Riverwalk, MI, provided an incredible experience for my parents, Mummy and Pappa.
