Week 10 (March 05 – March 11) – MJ’s Running in 2023

Welcome to the tenth week of running of 2023.

Welcome back to my weekly running summary! Week 10 of 2023 was filled with some exciting runs and personal achievements. As always, I’m here to share my experiences and progress with you. So, let’s dive right into the details of my runs from March 05 to March 11.

Sunday, March 05, 2023 – 2.38 miles in 49 minutes and 25 seconds

I kicked off the week on a bright note with a refreshing Sunday run. The weather was pleasant, and I decided to go for a 2.38-mile run. The main focus of this run was to maintain a consistent pace and improve my endurance. With a time of 49 minutes and 25 seconds, I was satisfied with my performance, especially considering the distance.

Monday, March 06, 2023 – 2.18 miles in 49 minutes and 28 seconds

Monday brought its own set of challenges, but I was determined to stick to my running schedule. I covered a distance of 2.18 miles, aiming to complete it in under 50 minutes. I managed to achieve this goal with a time of 49 minutes and 28 seconds. It was a satisfying run, and I felt energized for the week ahead.

Wednesday, March 08, 2023 – 2 miles in 43 minutes and 35 seconds

Midweek runs are always a great way to break the monotony and keep the momentum going. On Wednesday, I decided to go for a shorter 2-mile run but with a twist. I pushed myself to maintain a faster pace, and it paid off. I completed the run in 43 minutes and 35 seconds, averaging around 21.47 minutes per mile. It was a personal best for me in terms of speed, and I was thrilled with the progress I was making.

Friday, March 10, 2023 – 1.73 miles in 37 minutes and 59 seconds

Friday’s run was a bit shorter, covering a distance of 1.73 miles. However, I wanted to challenge myself by maintaining a steady pace throughout. Despite the shorter distance, I still managed to complete the run in 37 minutes and 59 seconds, averaging 21.52 minutes per mile. It was a great way to end the week on a high note.

Week 10 of my running journey was filled with determination, personal records, and a commitment to improvement. Each run brought its own set of challenges and rewards, pushing me to become a better runner. Whether it was a longer, slower run or a shorter, faster one, I remained focused on my goals and celebrated every small victory.

As I reflect on this week’s runs, I’m reminded that consistency is key to progress in any fitness journey. Each step forward, no matter how small, contributes to our overall growth and helps us become better versions of ourselves.

I hope you found my weekly running summary for Week 10 inspiring and motivating. Remember, it’s not about how fast you go; it’s about the dedication and effort you put into each run. Stay tuned for more updates on my running journey, and I look forward to sharing my progress with you next week!

To summarize, I ran 8.3 miles in week 10 in 3 hours and 27 seconds at an average pace of 21’75”. So far, I have run 12.9 miles in 2023.

See you next week!

April 04, 2020 – Brighton Recreational Area, MI, USA

In a world marked by the trials and tribulations of a global pandemic, outdoor activities have become a rare commodity. While many countries continue to grapple with lockdowns and restrictions, we find ourselves fortunate to reside in the USA, where stepping outside and savoring the beauty of nature remains a treasured privilege. One sunny Saturday, I and a group of close friends decided to seize this opportunity and embarked on an adventure to the Brighton Recreational Area in Michigan. Our day in the great outdoors was a refreshing escape from the monotony of life during the pandemic.

Living through a pandemic has reshaped the way we perceive the simple joys of life. As our daily routines blurred the lines between work, exercise, and solitude, the need for a change of scenery became increasingly apparent. After spending an entire week tethered to our office desks and diligently caring for our physical well-being through workouts and runs, we yearned for a change of pace and a breath of fresh air. Brighton Recreational Area beckoned us, located just 30 miles away from our homes.

Accompanied by the friends I had been staying with during the pandemic, we set out on our adventure. The anticipation of a day spent immersed in nature’s embrace filled us with excitement. With the backdrop of lush greenery and the prospect of exploration, we embarked on this journey with high spirits.

Upon reaching the Brighton Recreational Area, we were greeted by a pristine natural landscape that seemed to stretch endlessly in all directions. Towering trees swayed gently in the breeze, and the tranquil waters of the Huron River sparkled in the sunlight. The atmosphere was a stark contrast to the confines of our indoor lives, and it instantly lifted our spirits.

The beauty of the Brighton Recreational Area lies in its diverse offerings. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a birdwatcher, or simply seeking a quiet spot to picnic, this place has something for everyone. We opted for an exhilarating hike, and the experience was nothing short of magical. As we ventured deeper into the woods, the cares of the world seemed to fade away. The chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the scent of the earth beneath our feet created a symphony of sensory delight.

The trails meandered through the dense forest, leading us to picturesque vistas, serene lakes, and babbling brooks. Each step was an opportunity to reconnect with nature, reminding us of the beauty that exists outside our screens and four walls. It was a vivid reminder of the privilege we hold to enjoy the great outdoors, even in the midst of a pandemic.

As we ascended a hill and reached a viewpoint, we were rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding countryside. The sheer vastness of the landscape, punctuated by the vibrant hues of autumn foliage, was a sight to behold. It was a humbling experience, reminding us of our place in the grand tapestry of the natural world.

Our day at Brighton Recreational Area served as a poignant reminder of the importance of taking time to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. In a world beset by uncertainty and challenges, the healing power of nature is an invaluable gift. The pandemic has taught us that life is fragile and that we must cherish every moment, no matter how small.

As we concluded our hike and returned to the bustling city, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to escape to such a beautiful place, and gratitude for the company of friends who shared in this adventure. This experience has ignited a desire to seek out more outings like this, to make the most of the life we have and to continue appreciating the wonders of the natural world that surrounds us.

In a world where uncertainty prevails, nature remains a constant source of solace and inspiration. Brighton Recreational Area, with its sprawling landscapes and serene beauty, has become a symbol of hope and renewal in these trying times. It serves as a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, the outdoors continue to offer us solace, wonder, and a chance to appreciate the life we are fortunate to live.

March 16, 2020 – First Day of WFH, Westland, MI, USA

The year 2020 will always be remembered for the unprecedented changes it brought into our lives. As COVID-19 swept across the globe, it left a trail of disruption in its wake. For many, including myself, one of the most significant changes was transitioning from the traditional office environment to working from home. Little did I know that my first work-from-home (WFH) experience, which began on March 16, would mark the beginning of a new chapter in my professional life.

When my employer first informed us about the temporary shift to WFH, none of us anticipated the extent to which it would alter our daily routines. The initial announcement suggested that it would last for a couple of weeks, with further instructions to follow. Little did we know that this would be just the beginning of a long and unpredictable journey.

As the news of the pandemic spread, I realized that I was not alone in this situation. Friends from both India and the USA, in various industries and professions, were also adapting to this new normal. Some of them seemed to be enjoying the change, while others found it challenging to maintain a work-life balance.

The transition to working from home was not without its hurdles. Setting up a dedicated workspace, adjusting to video calls and virtual meetings, and managing household distractions were all part of the learning curve. However, despite these challenges, I couldn’t help but feel excited about this change.

One of the most significant advantages of WFH was the flexibility it offered. No more long commutes, rushed morning routines, or strict office hours. I could structure my day to suit my needs, taking breaks when necessary to recharge. Additionally, I found that I was more productive in a quiet and comfortable environment.

While the physical distance from colleagues was apparent, it was heartening to see how technology bridged the gap. Video conferencing tools allowed us to maintain face-to-face interactions, even if they were virtual. Regular catch-up meetings and virtual team-building activities helped us stay connected and maintain a sense of camaraderie.

As the weeks turned into months, it became evident that the WFH arrangement was not going away anytime soon. The pandemic continued to evolve, and the world was grappling with an uncertain future. It was during these times that adaptability and resilience became essential traits for employees worldwide.

Despite the initial apprehension, I have come to appreciate the benefits of working from home. It has allowed me to strike a better balance between my personal and professional life, explore new ways of collaborating with colleagues, and develop self-discipline and time management skills.

My first work-from-home experience, born out of necessity, has become a defining aspect of my professional journey. While it started as a temporary measure, it has transformed into a long-term arrangement, reshaping the way we work and connect with our colleagues. As we continue to adapt to the challenges of the post-pandemic world, I can’t help but feel thankful for the opportunity to embrace this change and look forward to the evolving landscape of remote work.

Week 09 (February 26 – March 04) – MJ’s Running in 2023

Welcome to the ninth week of running of 2023.

Life’s journey is not just about maintaining routines; it’s about embracing the opportunities that arise to explore, learn, and experience new dimensions of life. Week 09 of my running journey was marked by a delightful diversion from my usual routine. While my running shoes remained untouched, the experiences gained were worth every step not taken.

From February 26 to March 04, my focus shifted from pounding the pavement to exploring the cosmos at the renowned NASA attraction near our home. The opportunity to step into the world of space exploration was an adventure I couldn’t resist. The excitement was palpable as I walked through the exhibits, learned about the history of space travel, and marveled at the advancements that have propelled humanity beyond our planet. While I didn’t log any miles on my running app, I did journey through the history of human achievement in space, reminding me that the paths we choose to explore are just as important as the ones we run.

Amidst the wonders of NASA, I also had the privilege of attending a live improv show by my favorite Marathi comedy channel, Bhadipa. Laughter filled the air as the comedians took to the stage, weaving together humor and cultural references that resonated deeply. The joy of shared laughter transcended language barriers, reinforcing the idea that connections are formed not only through words but through the emotions they evoke. While this evening of entertainment didn’t contribute to my running statistics, it enriched my life in ways that numbers on a screen cannot measure.

Week 09 was a poignant reminder that sometimes, stepping away from our routines can lead to new discoveries and a renewed appreciation for life’s diverse experiences. While running is a personal journey of physical and mental wellness, it is only one facet of a multifaceted life. By embracing diversions and allowing ourselves to explore beyond our comfort zones, we open doors to a world of growth and enrichment.

As I reflect on Week 09, I’m reminded that life often presents us with opportunities that can’t be neatly planned or scheduled. These moments of spontaneity, like visiting NASA and enjoying a live comedy show, remind us that there is beauty in veering off the beaten path. These diversions contribute to the rich tapestry of our lives, coloring our experiences in ways we may not have imagined.

While my running shoes may not have hit the pavement during Week 09, my heart and mind embarked on a journey that was equally invigorating. Exploring the universe through the lens of space exploration and sharing laughter with fellow comedy enthusiasts added new layers of depth and color to my life. Just as every step on a running trail is a step toward growth, every detour and diversion we embrace contributes to our personal and emotional evolution. The week was a reminder that while running is an essential part of my life, it’s the experiences and connections that truly define the adventure.

To summarize, I ran 0 miles in week 09, and so far I have run only 4.6 miles in 2023.

See you next week!

Title: Welcoming 2020 with Gratitude and Adventure!

Hey there, friends! As we step into a brand-new year filled with endless possibilities, I wanted to take a moment to share with you how I welcomed the year 2020. It was a day filled with adventure, gratitude, and the company of cherished friends.

Unlike the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations that often extend into the wee hours of the morning, my close-knit group of friends and I decided to do something a little different. We all have kids, which made late-night parties a bit of a challenge. So, we opted for a daytime adventure to kick off the year on a high note.

We embarked on a short but enchanting hike at the nearby Mulberry State Park, and what made it even more magical was the thick blanket of snow that covered the landscape. Now, I must confess, I had never hiked in the snow before, and it was an experience that left me in awe.

The pristine white snow glistened in the gentle Michigan sun, creating a breathtaking winter wonderland that seemed straight out of a fairy tale. The best part? It didn’t feel as bone-chillingly cold as I had anticipated. The camaraderie of my friends and the beauty of the natural world around us kept us warm from within.

As we trekked through the snow-covered trails, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in a dream. The pictures we took turned out even more spectacular than I had expected, capturing the sheer beauty and serenity of the moment.

We completed a small loop within the park, but it wasn’t about the distance we covered; it was about the memories we created. Along the way, we laughed, shared stories, and expressed our hopes and dreams for the year ahead. It was a time of reflection and gratitude for all that we had accomplished in the year that was coming to an end.

Looking back on 2019, I couldn’t help but feel thankful for the wonderful life I have. I had achieved many of the goals I had set for myself, and I was surrounded by friends who brought joy and adventure into my life. It was a year of growth, learning, and countless cherished moments.

As we bid farewell to 2019 and welcomed 2020 with open arms, I couldn’t be more excited about the year ahead. With the support of my amazing friends and the beautiful memories we created on that snowy hike, I knew that 2020 was going to be nothing short of awesome.

So, here’s to new adventures, new challenges, and new opportunities in the year 2020! May it be filled with love, laughter, and the pursuit of our dreams. Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉✨ #NewYear2020 #AdventureAwaits #Gratitude

November 10, 2019 – Toronto, ON, CA

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to visit Toronto, Canada, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. I embarked on this journey with a friend from work who was in the city for his visa appointment. With his Airbnb already booked, I had the perfect lodging arrangement in place. Our adventure in Toronto took us to iconic landmarks like the CN Tower, the bustling downtown streets, the vibrant Graffiti Alley, and a delightful dining experience at Sanjeev Kapoor’s restaurant.

Our first stop was the CN Tower, a Toronto icon that’s hard to miss. As we ascended the tower’s heights, the panoramic views of the city took our breath away. The glass floor, observation deck, and the EdgeWalk experience made our visit truly thrilling. It was a great way to start our adventure in this bustling metropolis.

Downtown Toronto is a vibrant hub with its towering skyscrapers, bustling streets, and a lively atmosphere. We explored the Financial District, wandered along the historic Queen Street, and even stumbled upon some hidden gems like local markets and street vendors offering delectable snacks. The energy of the city was palpable, and we couldn’t help but immerse ourselves in its dynamic vibe.

One of the most pleasant surprises of our trip was discovering Graffiti Alley. Located in the Queen Street West neighborhood, this vibrant stretch of laneway is adorned with colorful and imaginative street art. The intricate graffiti designs served as captivating backdrops for our photos and added an artistic dimension to our adventure. Every corner of Graffiti Alley had something new and intriguing to offer, making it one of the highlights of our visit.

For a taste of home away from home, we dined at Sanjeev Kapoor’s restaurant. The restaurant offered a delectable fusion of Indian flavors with a modern twist. From mouthwatering butter chicken to innovative vegetarian dishes, our taste buds were treated to a delightful culinary journey. It was a reminder of the diverse culinary scene that Toronto has to offer.

During our exploration of Toronto, I couldn’t help but notice a peculiar trend – most of the cab drivers were behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla, the same car I drove back home. It felt like a quirky connection to the city, and I couldn’t help but chuckle every time I hailed a cab.

My visit to Toronto left me with wonderful memories and a deep yearning to return. Exploring the city with my friend, discovering hidden gems like Graffiti Alley, and savoring the flavors of Sanjeev Kapoor’s restaurant made this trip truly special. Toronto’s vibrant atmosphere and friendly residents added to the charm of the city. As I reflect on this adventure, I can’t help but feel a strong desire to return and explore more of what Toronto has to offer. Until then, the memories of this trip will continue to inspire my wanderlust.

Week 08 (February 19 – February 25) – MJ’s Running in 2023

Welcome to the eighth week of running of 2023.

Life is a delicate dance of balancing priorities, and sometimes, our well-established routines need to take a back seat to accommodate the important moments that arise. Week 08 of my running journey was one such instance, where the ebb and flow of life led me to temporarily set aside my running shoes to embrace meaningful connections and support my loved ones.

The second week of February (February 19 – February 25) brought with it the joy of reconnecting with a dear friend from Seattle. As the city lights illuminated our conversations and laughter, I found myself trading my running routes for strolls through town, reminiscing about old times and creating new memories. The camaraderie we shared served as a reminder that while running fuels my body, these connections nourish my soul.

Simultaneously, this week presented my wife with the challenge of midterms and various academic projects. The demands of academia can be all-consuming, and my role as a supportive partner took precedence. While I typically hit the trails, I instead found myself by her side, assisting with projects, providing encouragement, and sharing in her accomplishments. This temporary shift of focus underscored the importance of being present for our loved ones during their times of need.

As the week progressed, it became clear that my running goals would need to take a back seat. While the miles I didn’t run may have been absent from my tracker, the moments of connection, laughter, and support were etched into the tapestry of my memories. This week taught me the value of flexibility and adaptability in navigating life’s unpredictable course.

Success is often defined by milestones achieved and goals met. However, this week taught me that success can also be measured by the depth of our relationships, the impact we have on others, and the moments we choose to prioritize. While I didn’t log any miles on the running track, I logged countless moments of shared joy, encouragement, and togetherness.

As I reflect on Week 08 of my running journey, I’m reminded that life’s rhythm is not confined to a single tempo. It’s a symphony that blends the harmony of individual pursuits with the crescendo of human connections. While the miles I didn’t run are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, the friendships nurtured and the support offered are what truly matter. The choice to prioritize meaningful connections over a well-planned routine is a choice I’ll make time and time again, because in the end, it’s these connections that truly define the essence of a well-lived life.

To summarize, with 0 miles this week, I have run 4.6 miles in 2023 so far.

See you next week!

October 27, 2019 – My Second Car in USA, Northville, MI, USA

Purchasing a car is a significant milestone for anyone, and it’s a decision that often reflects personal preferences, needs, and financial considerations. For me, the process of buying my second car in the USA was not just about acquiring a new set of wheels; it was a choice that symbolized financial independence and the freedom to explore the open road on my terms. In this blog post, I’ll share my experience of buying my second car, which was quite different from my first one.

My journey to buying a second car began with my first car, which was a leased vehicle. Leasing was a suitable choice when I was just starting my journey in the USA. It provided me with the convenience of driving a car without the long-term commitment and the worry of depreciation. However, as the lease ended, I faced the decision of what to do next.

Unlike some car enthusiasts, I’m not particularly passionate about cars. I see them as a means to an end—a way to get from point A to point B comfortably and reliably. So, I decided against leasing or renting another vehicle. Instead, I chose to buy a car and own it outright. My criteria were simple: I wanted a vehicle known for reliability, fuel efficiency, and a high resale value if I ever decided to sell it. After some research, I settled on a used Toyota Corolla.

Finding the right car was just the beginning of the journey. The car I had my eyes on was in Ohio, while I lived in Detroit. To finalize the purchase, I needed to drive from Detroit to the Ohio dealership. This meant taking a rental car from Detroit, making the trip to Ohio, handling all the paperwork, returning the rental at the Ohio airport, picking up my new car, and finally, driving it back home to Detroit. It was an entire day of logistics and travel, but I was determined to make it happen.

The day of the purchase was quite eventful. From the excitement of signing the paperwork and getting the keys to my new car to the practical aspects of handling insurance and registration, it was a day full of anticipation. The drive back to Detroit in my newly acquired Toyota Corolla was a liberating experience. It felt like I had taken a significant step towards greater financial independence and personal freedom.

As I sit behind the wheel of my reliable Corolla, I can’t help but wonder how many miles this car will carry me. Whether it’s daily commutes, road trips, or unexpected adventures, this vehicle will be my trusted companion. I may not be a “car person,” but I’ve come to appreciate the value of having a dependable mode of transportation.

In conclusion, buying my second car in the USA was a journey marked by simplicity, practicality, and the joy of taking ownership. While I may not have chosen a flashy or high-performance vehicle, I’m content knowing that my Toyota Corolla will get the job done efficiently and reliably. And who knows, the road ahead may hold countless stories and adventures, all made possible by this humble yet reliable automobile. Here’s to the next chapter in my journey, one mile at a time.

October 22, 2019 – My First Ice Hockey Game, Detroit, MI, USA

Living in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, I had heard countless tales of the legendary Detroit Red Wings and their passionate fanbase. But for years, I had never experienced the exhilaration of an ice hockey game firsthand. Finally, I decided to seize the opportunity and attend my very first game at the Little Caesars Arena. Little did I know, this evening would be filled with action, excitement, and unforgettable moments.

The Red Wings were facing off against their long-standing rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs, in what promised to be a thrilling matchup. While I was aware of the Red Wings’ recent struggles, I was optimistic about the game. After all, the atmosphere alone was enough to get anyone’s heart racing.

As soon as I entered the arena, I was hit by an electric atmosphere that was unlike anything I had ever experienced. The sea of red jerseys, the chants and cheers from the crowd, and the anticipation in the air all combined to create an intoxicating vibe. It was clear that the fans were as much a part of the game as the players themselves.

What surprised me the most during the game was the intensity on the ice. I had seen hockey on TV, but witnessing it live was an entirely different experience. The physicality of the sport was evident as players jostled for position, checked opponents into the boards, and raced down the ice with incredible speed.

One moment that had me wide-eyed was when two players suddenly dropped their gloves and began to fight. The crowd roared as they duked it out, and I later learned that these intense skirmishes were part of the game. It was fascinating to see how the referees handled such situations by giving the fighters a “timeout” in the penalty box.

One smart decision I made was attending the game on a weekday after work. This not only made it easier to get time off but also meant that the ticket prices were significantly more affordable compared to weekend games. I could enjoy the game without burning a hole in my pocket, which was a win-win situation.

Despite the Red Wings falling short that night, I left the arena with a sense of fulfillment and a newfound appreciation for ice hockey. The atmosphere, the intensity, and the camaraderie among fans had left an indelible mark on me. I couldn’t help but think that I wanted to experience it all over again, and this time, I hoped to witness a triumphant victory by the home team.

My first ice hockey game at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit was a memorable experience that exceeded all my expectations. Witnessing the Detroit Red Wings in action against the Toronto Maple Leafs was a dream come true, and even though they didn’t win that night, I left with a renewed passion for the sport.

I can’t wait to return to the arena, this time for a big game where the Red Wings emerge victorious. Until then, I’ll be counting down the days and cheering for my newfound hockey heroes from the heart of Hockeytown, Detroit.

Week 07 (February 12 – February 18) – MJ’s Running in 2023

Welcome to the seventh week of running of 2023.

In the journey of life, there are times when we must pause our regular routines to fully immerse ourselves in the special moments that come our way. Week 07 of my running journey was one such instance. While the familiar rhythm of my running routine was temporarily interrupted, it was for a series of joyous occasions that left my heart full and my spirits high.

As I navigated through the second week of February (February 12 – February 18), my running shoes remained neatly tucked away. The reason for this hiatus? A delightful and unforgettable confluence of events that demanded my undivided attention.

The Super Bowl weekend arrived, and with it came the excitement of the big game, the halftime show, and the camaraderie that surrounds this annual event. Friends and family gathered to revel in the spectacle, sharing laughter and friendly banter as we cheered for our favorite teams. The energy of the moment was palpable, and for a few days, the focus shifted from pounding the pavement to sharing in the excitement of a national tradition.

As love was in the air, my new wife and I celebrated our very first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. The day was filled with heartfelt gestures, shared moments, and the kind of intimacy that only newlyweds can truly appreciate. Instead of logging miles on the running track, we embraced each other’s company, creating memories that would forever hold a special place in our hearts.

The week also marked the final stages of transitioning into our new apartment in Houston, Texas. The process of unpacking, arranging furniture, and adding personal touches was both exciting and consuming. As boxes were opened and items found their new homes, a sense of accomplishment mingled with the anticipation of building a life together in a new space.

While my running shoes remained untouched during Week 07, the experiences I gained were far more valuable than any number of miles covered. Life’s journey is about striking a balance between discipline and indulgence, routine and celebration. This week, I chose to embrace the latter, understanding that these moments of connection, celebration, and renewal are what truly enrich our lives.

As I look back on Week 07, I am reminded that life’s path is not a linear one. It twists and turns, allowing us to savor its myriad flavors. Sometimes, it necessitates a break from our routines to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of the present moment. While running may have taken a back seat, the memories created during this week will remain etched in my heart. With each step forward, I’m reminded that the rhythm of life isn’t just about miles covered, but the depth of experiences that shape who we are.

To summarize, I have run 4.6 miles in 2023.

See you next week!
