Week 44 (October 23 – October 29) – MJ’s Running in 2022

Welcome to the forty fourth week of running for the year 2022.

In the realm of running, consistency is often touted as a key ingredient for success. However, every runner knows that life sometimes throws curveballs that disrupt even the most meticulously planned training schedules. Week 44 of 2022 was one such week for me, as unexpected circumstances led to a complete break from running, resulting in zero miles logged. Join me as I reflect on this week of rest and explore the lessons it taught me.

As runners, we are accustomed to pushing ourselves and striving for new milestones. However, it is equally crucial to listen to our bodies and recognize when rest is necessary. During Week 44, various commitments and responsibilities demanded my attention, leaving me with little time and energy for running. Rather than stubbornly persisting despite the circumstances, I made the conscious decision to prioritize rest and recovery.

For someone accustomed to following a structured training plan, the idea of an entire week without running can be disconcerting. However, life is full of unpredictable events, and sometimes our plans need to be adjusted. Embracing this reality with grace and adaptability is essential to maintaining a healthy mindset. By accepting the circumstances and allowing myself to adapt to the demands of the week, I was able to find peace in the temporary departure from my running routine.

Although I missed the physical exertion and endorphin rush that accompanies a run, I discovered that taking a break can be an opportunity for rejuvenation. The absence of running provided me with extra time to focus on other aspects of my life that had been neglected. I engaged in activities that brought me joy, spent quality time with loved ones, and prioritized self-care. This intentional break allowed me to recharge both mentally and physically, leaving me eager and motivated for future runs.

In the midst of a rest week, it’s easy to feel discouraged or guilty for not adhering to our running goals. However, it’s crucial to remind ourselves that running is a lifelong journey filled with peaks and valleys. The setbacks and breaks are an integral part of this process, teaching us valuable lessons along the way. Week 44 served as a reminder of the importance of balance, adaptability, and self-care in a runner’s life.

As Week 44 came to a close, I felt a renewed sense of excitement and motivation. The break from running had allowed me to reevaluate my goals, appreciate the importance of rest, and reassess my priorities. Armed with a newfound perspective, I eagerly looked forward to lacing up my running shoes and returning to the pavement in the upcoming week.

Week 44 of 2022 will forever be etched in my running journey as a week of rest. While it may not have been filled with miles logged and personal records shattered, it served as a valuable lesson in adaptability, self-care, and the importance of listening to my body. Running is not just about the miles covered; it encompasses the ups and downs, the setbacks, and the moments of triumph. As I embark on future weeks of training, I carry with me the wisdom gained during this week of rest, confident in my ability to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the runner’s life.

See you next week!
