Book 16 – Astrophysics for People in a Hurry – Neil deGrasse Tyson

This was the 4th book I read in 2021.

The idea of reading this book came after I was inspired by my friends Monika and Anupam, who are physicist and after hearing them talk about the origin of the universe and the lovely magical things that go on continuously in this universe. My approach to this book was educational and I really wanted to learn more about our home – the Earth and other planets and stars that are in our galaxy – “The milky way”. I didn’t know that I would learn so many things about our galaxy and other galaxies in this universe.

One thing I will never forget about this book
This book blew my mind so many times, but the one thing that I will never forget was when the author NDT mentioned about the Nobel Prize in Physics for creation of LED lights. This was revolutionary in so many ways, but the way the three scientists created the LED lights was a testament to their genius and how important this creation was for the humanity and the way we live.
The most amazing thing that I found while reading this story about the invention of the LED lights was that the scientists used the different portion of the light spectrum that is available to the mankind. For me, personally, this was something that I hadn’t heard before, so it just struck to me so much that I am not going to forget it for the rest of my life.

Specialty of the book
The second most amazing thing about this book is the storytelling. NDT is quite famous for explaining complex astronomical and physical things in Layman’s terms, which makes it easier to read and consume his books. This book is no exception.
The book starts off with the beginning of the universe and as we progress towards the end of the book, NDT correctly points out the time where we are. I think that was a subtle way of saying how much we have progressed since the beginning of the universe.

Why should someone read this book?
I mean, if you are interested in knowing how the Earth and our solar system was formed, then this book is worth the read. I enjoyed reading it because I am fascinated about space and science behind the birth of the universe, so I thoroughly enjoyed devouring this book in a week. It is a short 100-200 page book, with a simple language, making it easier to understand the complex concepts in physics and astrophysics world.

See you at the next book review!
