Week 02 (January 03 – January 09) – Running 2,021 miles in 2021

The first week of the year didn’t start in the way I wanted, so I am looking forward to week number 2 and getting some run in during this time.

Day 03 – 01/03/2021 – 2017/363
The first run of the year was so special for me. There were many reasons the first run turned out to be quite epic, the most important one being it was in Chicago Downtown.

I still remember my first run in 2020 and I am sure I am going to remember this one for a long time. At first, I was skeptical whether I would enjoy the run or not as I love Michigan and my running routes. Turned out, I was wrong. The surrounding helped a lot when I was running through the empty streets of Chicago Downtown.

It was drizzling a little bit and the temperature was just above 30, with some wind in the windy city. I was staying just a block from Michigan Avenue, so it was a perfect place to enjoy the amazing views the city had to offer and I made sure to savor the moment to the fullest.

The first run turned out to be faster than I expected and all the credit goes to the lovely city of Chicago. I finished 3.5 miles just under 35 minutes. Loved it.

Day 06 – 01/06/2021 – 2012/360
I had to wait a couple days to get my second run underway.

This run came at the end of the workday. I shut down my laptop at around 4.30PM and took a good 15 minutes to relax, stretch, and change in to my running gear to go out in the cold weather. I chose the loop near my place for this run, as I wasn’t sure how much or how long I was going to run.

The best thing about this loop is that it is roughly 0.5 miles long and just across the street from my place. I have started liking it more ever since I discovered it and it is turning out to be my new favorite running spot. I can imagine running an Ultramarathon here sometimes in the future.

For this run, I completed 10 rounds of the loop and completed 5 miles of running in just under an hour.

Day 07 – 01/07/2021 – 2006/359
The last run of the week was better than I expected. I repeated the same loop that I talked about during yesterday’s run above and instead of completing 10 loops, I did 12, finishing with a distance of 6 miles.

I would have loved getting the 10K distance, but was in a hurry to head home. The weather helped a lot and I am mentally getting closer to the Ultramarathon distance.

Before you go, please check out the week number 2 highlights. I finished 14.6 miles, bringing the distance to cover in 2021 to 2006.4 miles, that’s 5.58 miles every single day!

See you next week!
