Week 52 (December 27 – December 31) – Running 1,000 miles in 2020

Week 51 was awesome as I could finish two Half Marathons in a single week.

This is the last week and I have got 5 days to complete 41 miles of running. It is a challenge and I would have to work hard to get there.

Let us find out.

Day 1 – Sunday, December 27, 2020 – WFH Day 286 – 34 more miles to go
The first of the week and I celebrated it with a quick 10K run in the neighborhood. Well, it was not exactly a neighborhood, but loved that there are so many cool places around my neighborhood. I must admit, the definition of “cool” has changed for me since I am turning 30 in a few months.

Anyway, talking about the run, I had only an hour to finish the 10K, so tried pushing myself but got over by 5 minutes. I was happy with the fact that the distance was half a mile more than a 10K distance. This run brought the distance to cover to 34 miles.

I have 4 more days and 34 more miles to go. Hopefully, I will be able to do it.

Day 2 – Monday, December 28, 2020 – WFH Day 287 – 28 more miles to go
2nd 10K in a row.

This is the last week of the year and I need to put in some extra efforts to get to the 1,000 mile mark before the end of the year. So far, it is going good and according to the plan.
I took the same route for today’s run as yesterday. Due to wind and snow, I took 5 minutes more than I took yesterday. I am okay with this as long as I get to run some miles before the end of the year.

This run brought the miles to cover to 28 miles. 3 more days and 28 more miles, seems doable.

Day 3 – Tuesday, December 29, 2020 – WFH Day 288 – 21 more miles to go
3rd 10K in a row.

I have never ran 3 10Ks in a row, so that is something to cheer about. Before this week, I knew I had to put extra efforts to get to my target; Little did I know that I would run 3 10Ks in a row. This run brought the miles down to 21 miles.

I just have 2 more days to finish 21 miles. The last two days are crucial.

Day 4 – Wednesday, December 30, 2020 – WFH Day 289 – 14 more miles to go
Welcome to the penultimate day of 2020. I ran 4th 10K in a row today.

The route, the time, the weather everything was similar to the ones yesterday. The only thing I would liked to do was to go for more distance, but was happy with the progress I had made so far with one more day to go. This 10K distance brought the distance to cover on the last day of the year to 14 miles.

For the last one year, whatever miles I have run & whatever time and efforts I have put in, it all has come down to this last day with only 14 more miles to cover on the 31st of December. I would love to finish the year by completing one more Half Marathon. Let us see if I get there.

Day 5 – Thursday, December 31, 2020 – WFH Day 290 – 0 more miles to go
Ah! The last day of the year and it couldn’t have been more memorable.

The first run of the day came to a surprising halt at 9.5 miles when I realized I was running short on supplies. I had to take a break before continuing with my run.
After taking the break, I knew, it would be hard to get back on the road to complete the rest of the miles, but I was determined and was finally jubilant when I realized that I had finished 4.6 miles of running, completing the 1,000 miles for the year 2020.

What a day and what a year 2020 has been!

Here’s the weekly highlight.

Next step: Review 2020 and set a target for 2021.
