Week 16 – Detroit FreePress International Marathon prep (Apr 19 – Apr 25)

One more week. Let the struggle begin!

Day 1 – Sunday, April 19, 2020 – Quarantine Day 34
Starting the week on a high note. The COVID19 positive count for Michigan has dropped to 633. I think this is the lowest number of daily cases I have seen for Michigan so far, so definitely something to cheer about.

Now, yesterday I ran a Half Marathon, so I am still recovering from the pain that I endured during that run. Naturally, I had to skip the run, but it didn’t stop me from exploring one more state recreational area in the state of Michigan. This time, it was Pontiac Lake Recreational Area.

Man, it was so beautiful to hike through the woods, fallen trees and their leaves. The moment we started the hike, we were greeted with this tunnel and I couldn’t stop myself from being goofy and trying different voices in the tunnel.

You check it out yourself.

Hehe, I know it is childish, but it is funny.

The trail that we did was the EQUESTRIAN TRAIL, so I was hoping to see a few horses. Unfortunately, I had to wait till the end of the hike to see a couple, but it was worth it.

Here they are.

Now, what do I talk about the trail. It was awesome with the lovely company and funny little kids. My Apple watch decided to act funny, splitting a single hike into two.
Good that, I could finish the 5 mile hike, I meant, Apple Watch let me finish the hike at the 5 mile mark.

A Sunday well spent!

Day 2 – Monday April 20, 2020 – Quarantine Day 35
Good news again! The positive COVID19 cases are seemingly dropping off at a consistent pace and today’s count is 676, which is far less than I anticipated, so it is a good news.

The weather decided to play its tricks again today, so we decided to stay indoors and enjoy our home workout. Today, I felt like keeping it simple with the regular push-ups, sit-ups, and Russian twists. The only improvement was the number of repetitions – I added one more round to the existing 50-10 variations, so it was 60-50-40-30-20-10 this time and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Day 3 – Tuesday April 21, 2020 – Quarantine Day 36
As I celebrate on April 23rd per Indian time and April 22nd post afternoon per US times, I decided to take 21st as the rest day and do nothing, except work my ass off.

Even though we are working from home and the plants are closed, work has never been this busy. I like it this way, helps you pass the day relatively quickly.

Day 4 – Wednesday April 22, 2020– Quarantine Day 37
My pre-birthday.

I have so many people to be grateful for! Parents, family, and friends. Everyone made me feel so special by celebrating my birthday. Felt so good and blessed. I will talk more about it in other section of my blog though! 🙃

Talking about the workout, it was simple workout for my legs. I haven’t run since Sunday’s Half Marathon, so it was time to start working on my legs and what better way to do it than a home workout during the quarantine times.

I decided to do the 50-10 pattern of three movements.
1. Air Squats
2. Lateral Lunges
3. Mountain Climbers

The reason we did this workout was to burn off *some* calories from the delicious cakes below. My friends, Monika and Anupam, were kind enough to order *two* cakes for me. The TIRAMISU which is my favorite and the FRUIT CUSTARD which the kids like. Thanks for doing this for me! ❤️😊☺️

Damn, don’t they look delicious?

Day 5 – Thursday April 23, 2020– Quarantine Day 38
Happy Birthday to me! I am 29 years old, and haven’t been this fit before in my life. All thanks to Monika, happy now?

Being the birthday, I took this as the rest day to recharge myself for the busy weekend!

Day 6 – Friday April 24, 2020– Quarantine Day 39
I ran after so many days!

I am not sure whether I told you guys or not, I started wearing the KNEE CAP after a little injury post my Half Marathon. This knee cap has been a blessing for me.

The 5-day rest and the knee cap helped me clock such a tremendous pace during today’s run. I couldn’t believe that I could run this faster without pushing myself. It was such an awesome run coupled with the lovely Michigan weather.

The pace was so good at the end that I finished the last mile of the run at 8’ pace. Felt really good!

Day 7 – Saturday April 25, 2020– Quarantine Day 40
Here comes the weekend and the last day of the week.

I had to skip the run today as we planned to do a 9-mile beautiful hike at the lovely Island Lake Recreational Area. This hike is full of uphills and some breathtaking views. We did the BLUE TRAIL, for those who have been here. I would love to go back to this place again!

This brings us to the end of Week 16 – My birthday week. I took it a little bit light on myself to *celebrate* my birthday in a relaxed manner (without any injury).

10 more miles to go for 250 miles in 2020. Let’s kill it next week!
